This event marks the beginning of a sustained effort to address access to nutritious food among military families in the Orlando area, where FFP is headquartered, and beyond. 'Welcoming FFP as a partner strengthens our efforts to address food insecurity among military families,' said Amy Palmer, president and CEO of Soldiers' Angels. Terrifying Google note warns billions of phone users of 5 bank-raiding texts sent by crooks ‘without fear of punishment'
GOOGLE has warned phone users of five bank-raiding texts sent by crooks. Cybercriminals are using a diverse set of tactics to prey on customers. 1 It comes amid a recent Federal Trade Commission data which found that Google's reported fraud losses jumped 25% to $12.5 billion (£10.5 billion) in 2024. "Scammers are more effective and act without fear of punishment when people are uninformed about fraud and scam tactics," Google warned. Customer support scams Scammers trick customers by impersonating representatives from prominent companies. They prey on anxieties around safety and IT issues to access sensitive information. It's important to double check the number which has called you is legitimate before proceeding with the call. Malvertizing Some scammers use fake online ads to spread malware. Google researchers say that scammers are increasingly targeting more sophisticated users, including people with valuable online assets, like crypto wallets, and social media influencers. To swat away the offers, make sure you're being extra careful when anyone offers free versions of licenced software. Fake travel websites As more and more Brits book their sun-soaked getaways, criminals are licking their lips. Scammers present themselves as genuine travel agencies or hotels before offering holidaymakers package deals on summer getaways. Debit card warning after $500 vanishes from woman's bank account within minutes - why credit is safer at checkout Just make sure you're arranging your itinerary with reputable hotels and airlines. Package-tracking scams Cybercriminals are also masquerading as legitimate courier outfits and online retailers. The shameless crooks trick buyers into paying eye-watering add-on fees to speed up the delivery time. If you're expecting a package, go straight to the delivery company's site to check the status. Toll road scams With many toll roads operating a cash free system, opportunists are filling motorists' inboxes with phoney texts demanding they pay for unpaid tolls. If you think the fee demand is genuine, get in touch with the company itself before you hand over the cash. And remember not to click on links from unknown phone numbers or emails. TIME TO TRY PASSKEYS? Here's what security expert Chris Hauk, Consumer Privacy Advocate at Pixel Privacy, told The Sun... 'Passwords are both hard to remember and in most cases, easy to guess. "I would venture to say that most users (especially older users) will reuse passwords, simply because of all of the websites and apps that require sign-ins. "While password managers do help, they are at best, a stopgap measure and do not offer full-ranging security for your login information. "Passkeys offer the advantage of eliminating the need to enter an email address and password to log in. "This is especially handy when users are logging in on an iPhone or Android device. "Passkeys have multiple advantages over passwords. Passkeys cannot be shared or guessed. "Passkeys are unique to the website or app they are created for, so they cannot be used to login elsewhere like a reused password can. "Plus, passkeys cannot be stolen in a data breach, as the passkeys are not stored on the company's servers. "But are instead are a private key stored only on your device, where biometric authentication (like face ID or Touch ID) is required to use the passkey.' Image credit: Getty

Rose West living 'cushy' life, talking to the TV and eating strange breakfast
Rose West living 'cushy' life, talking to the TV and eating strange breakfast WARNING: DISTRESSING CONTENT Serial killer Rose West was convicted of ten murders back in 1995, now at 71-year-old, she has resigned herself to the fact that she will die behind bars Rose West was convicted of killing 10 young women in 1995 (Image: ) Thirty years after being imprisoned for her role in one of Britain's most notorious crimes, new details have emerged about how serial killer Rose West spends her time behind bars. In 1992, at just 13-years-old, Louise, the daughter of Rose and Fred West, accused Fred of rape and Rose of cruelty. Although the case collapsed after their eldest daughter Anne Marie - herself a victim - refused to testify, this set in motion a chain of events that would eventually expose the couple's horrific crimes. After learning that the West children had been under constant threat of "being buried under the patio like their sister Heather," who went missing five years earlier - police launched a major investigation. This led to the discovery of a series of mutilated bodies buried beneath the West's patio, as well as a sex dungeon in the cellar. In 1995, Rose West was convicted of killing 10 women, receiving a whole life order, meaning she will die behind bars. Fred never stood trial for his role, having taken his own life while on remand in HMP Birmingham aged 53, reports The Mirror. Fred and Rose West, Britain's most notorious serial killers, committed their atrocities in a true house of horrors (Image: ) Up to 2001, West had attempted to appeal her conviction, but it is understood that the now 71-year-old has resigned herself to dying in prison. Over the last three decades West has had regular transfers due to threats of violence from other inmates, however she has been settled at New Hall for the last six years, where she enjoys a "cushy life". She is currently being held in Riverdell House, a specialist unit within New Hall, that accommodates just 30 inmates. Each prisoner has their own en-suite and is issued a laptop, which can be used to order food. Inspection reports say that the communal areas in Rivendell are more "inviting" than other blocks in the prison. However, despite this luxury, insiders claim that West sometimes lashes out at staff if she does not get her own way. Don't miss a court report by signing up to our crime newsletter here A source told The Sun: "She's in a disabled room now because she can barely walk. She never really leaves the wing she's held on and is escorted all the time by prison officers if she goes anywhere. Sometimes she sits in the communal areas on her own. "No one talks to her because everyone knows who she is and what she did, even if she has changed her name. When I was there, she tried to make friends with the other women and gave them gifts, like vapes, but she was rejected. She likes to watch nature documentaries on the TV in her cell, especially ones about birds." It was reported that West paid £36 to change her name to Jennifer Jones, to "move on" from her evil crimes. It is believed that she changed her name by deed poll in December last year, yet everyone is aware of her real identity at the women-only HMP New Hall near Wakefield in West Yorkshire. Some inmates have declined her attempts at friendship, and it is said that she often eats tomato soup in her cell alone for breakfast, before spending most of her time in her cell knitting and talking to the TV, because she can barely walk. Article continues below Earlier this month, Netflix released a three-part documentary series walks viewers through the story of the Wests and their evil crimes during the '80s and '90s. The series includes over 50 hours of previously unseen and unheard police interview tapes from 107 interrogations, in the hope of casting a new light on the murders of at least 12 women by Fred and Rose West.
